The Arab League held an extraordinary meeting in Cairo on Sunday (February 19th) to discuss developments in Somalia and achieve consensus on the league's position ahead of Thursday's London conference, Kuwait's KUNA news agency reported.
Representatives from the Arab League's 22 member-states attended the meeting, reiterating their support for Somalia as the government ends its transitional phase.
"There is a need for Arab co-ordination for overcoming the humanitarian, security and economic crisis in the Arab League member Somalia," Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi said in his address. Al-Arabi said the league should provide logistic and financial support to African Union peacekeepers in Somalia.
UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs Faris al-Mazrouei also reaffirmed his government's support for Somalia.
