African Union and Somali forces launched a pre-dawn attack against al-Shabaab posts outside Mogadishu on Tuesday (February 14th), capturing two sites from the al-Qaeda-affiliated militants, security officials said.
"Somalia's army and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops advanced on new locations in the Afgoye corridor, they have taken bases there and will continue moving towards Afgoye," Mohamed Alole, a Somali security official told AFP. "The al-Qaeda militants started to fight back, but they were defeated and ran away after a brief exchange of gunfire."
Allied forces captured the Ali Janale area, close to Mogadishu's airport, and the Maslah building on the road to Afgoye, AMISOM deputy commander Audace Nduwumunsi said in a statement.
The operation is part of AMISOM's efforts to expand its territory in and around Mogadishu and to protect Somali civilians from al-Shabaab attacks, Nduwumunsi said.

The Kenyan defense forces have the best training in East and Central Africa and I believe that their combat can eradicate the militias. Even if their threatening fight was within the town, I expect the bandits who were amongst us were those who were benefiting from attacks to the Militias and are feared to replace Al Shabaab. I wish our dear military success in their combat in Somalia.
