Police are intensely searching for suspects in connection to the assassination of Hassan Osman Abdi, 29, editor-in-chief of Somalia's Shabelle Media Network, Somalia's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) announced on Wednesday (February 1st).
CID chief Abdullahi Hassan Barise urged citizens to help police with any information that could lead to an arrest, the news agency reported.
UN envoy to Somalia Augustine Mahiga denounced the killing and called on the government to bring the perpetrators to justice. "Fostering media independence and pluralism is an essential part of the process of establishing lasting peace and stability in Somalia," Mahiga said on Wednesday.
