The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) donated agricultural and health equipment this week to assist rural Djiboutians affected by drought, Djibouti's La Nation reported on Thursday (January 19th).
The donation will be given to farmers and ranchers in areas hardest hit by the drought. It includes hand sanitizers, gardening tools, water pumps and vegetable seeds. The FAO also provided 150 tonnes of hay, as well as salt licks, irrigation equipment and new animals for farmers.
The organisation will also provide logistical support and help capacity building. It has donated two pickup trucks, five motorcycles for regional prefectures, five laptops, office supplies and fuel, the paper reported.
Agriculture Minister Mohamed Awaleh accepted the delivery at his ministry on Wednesday, presented by the FAO representative in Djibouti Ndiaye Ndeye Ticker.
