Kenya's government will launch a three-month plan to improve efficiency and cut tariffs at Mombasa port, Kenya's Daily Nation reported on Monday (January 16th).
Over the next 100 days, agencies will implement the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to speed cargo processing and reduce the cost of imports. Measures include incentives such as storage waivers for cargo marked for quick evacuation, an additional 100 to 200 wagons and three more trains operating daily for quick evacuation.
While the port is open around the clock, "the facility continues to face challenges", said Transportation Ministry Permanent Secretary Cyrus Njiru. "There is clearly a need to dramatically improve the operational efficiency at the port."
The RRI is made up of representatives of various agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority and the Kenya Maritime Authority.
