I am of the opinion that whoever chooses to put down a gun and join a political process should be encouraged to do so. However they should be detained as they are rehabilitated and those that committed serious war crimes,such as the arbitrary beheadings of aid workers,women who refused to marry them etc MUST serve some sort of extra time 5-7 yrs .The scales of justice vary from one person to another. I pray Somalia (Mogadishu) is reunited with Somaliland (Hargeisa) and the new Somalia joins East African Community. Long live Somalia and may her people prosper in peace.

Welcoming defectors is not a good idea at all. Remember al shabaab have not surrendered, they have withdrawn only to regroup and re appear again. The so called defectors could be al shabaab spies sent to prepare the ground as the terrorists re group. AMISOM have done a good job so far and that should not be taken for ganted. They should only operate within their programme and leave Somali within the shortest time possible. These defectors should never be trusted.You do not know whether they will be collaborating with remnants of el-shabaab when they are under the umbrella of of the government.Hold them in camps just like prisoners of war until confirmed that there are no more alshabaabs.

I am very happy for the many youth who defect from Al-Shabaab but how are we sure of whether they are sincere or not. Let’s welcome them with open hands if they are sincere because they are Somali citizens and if they are not sincere I would like to advice them to fear God; the Almighty.
